THE ruling Zanu-PF in Bulawayo snatched two constituencies and one ward from the opposition in the December 2023 by-elections due to their unity of purpose and hard work, according to the party’s District Five.
Cde Albert Mavunga won Nketa Constituency, while Cde Raj Modi won Bulawayo South Constituency from the opposition and Cde Tavengwa Zidya is now the councillor for Ward 24.
Senior party cadres, including Bulawayo Provincial Affairs and Devolution Minister, Cde Judith Ncube, former minister and Zanu-PF Council of Elders member, Cde Angelina Masuku and Politburo member, Retired Colonel Tshinga Dube, attended a victory rally and called for continued unity and hard work in bringing development to their constituencies and wards.
“We are proud as Zanu-PF District Five that we managed to win two constituencies and one ward.
The victories in the by-elections were as a result of the hard work and unity,” the district’s co-ordinating committee chairperson, Cde Mnothisi Nsingo said.
“We all deserve a pat on the back for making sure that Zanu-PF won resoundingly against a fractured opposition that has brought nothing, but misery to our people.
“We all stand behind our President, His Excellency Cde Mnangagwa and we say under his leadership the ruling party will continue to grow and the country will continue to prosper.”
Minister Ncube said: “The elections have come and gone and now is the time to work.
Let’s show the people that voted you into office that they made the right decision by bringing development to their constituencies and ward.”
Cde Masuku urged ruling party members to remain united and shun factionalism in all its forms.
“The President is saying by 2030 ‘no one and no place should be left behind’ as far as development is concerned and that can only be achieved when we are united as a party, Zanu-PF, which has people-centred policies,” she said.
“There is no one who is bigger than Zanu-PF and in all my years as a leader in the ruling party, I have learnt that everyone must toe the party line.”
