The Government is determined to reach vulnerable groups and special populations with malaria interventions and will soon launch the End Malaria Council (EMC), comprising members from both the private and public sectors.
Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga said this in Murehwa this morning when he launched the Zimbabwean leg of the “Zero Malaria Starts With Me” campaign, joining 24 other African countries, predominantly from the Sadc region, in the fight against malaria.
The launch coincided with the Sadc Malaria Day, which is set aside to coordinate the efforts of the region’s health sector stakeholders in the fight against malaria.
“As Government, we remain determined to reach the vulnerable groups and special populations with malaria interventions,” said VP Chiwenga.
“In due course, the Ministry of Health and Child Care in consultation with other ministries, Government departments, the private sector and civil society will spearhead the formation and launch of the End Malaria Council, comprising members from both private and public sectors.
“The council’s mandate will be to raise additional domestic funding for malaria elimination to complement annual allocation from Treasury and donor contribution.
“This will enhance domestic financing, country ownership, and sustainability. The End Malaria Council will also provide oversight on the use of the raised End Malaria Funds.”
