A prominent Youth Climate Champion and Zimbabwe Young Ambassadors’ director, Abiel Mawere is representing Zimbabwe at the 19th Conference of Youth (COY19) in Baku, Azerbaijan.
The event brings together over 400 young leaders from around the world to discuss and address pressing climate change issues ahead of the upcoming Conference of the Parties (COP29).
As the incoming chairperson of the African Youth Diplomats, Mawere made a presentation on the critical role of the youth in the climate change discourse.
His presentation highlighted practical examples of innovative and impactful start-ups emerging from Africa, demonstrating the continent’s potential to drive sustainable solutions.

“The competition was fierce, with thousands of applicants worldwide. The opportunity to represent Zimbabwe and share my experience is invaluable.
“Despite the unique challenges faced by each country, Zimbabwe has made significant strides in implementing its Climate Change National Adaptation Plan.
“Our young people are at the forefront of developing sustainable projects and solutions, and I am eager to collaborate with them and other global youth leaders to drive meaningful change.”
COY19 is a platform for youths to engage in capacity building, policy training, and networking.
The insights and recommendations generated at this conference will directly influence the discussions at COP29, which will take place from November 11 to 22 in Baku.
