CHICKEN INN goalkeepers’ coach Energy Murambadoro says the club’s ‘keeper Donovan Bernard is the best in the Castle Lager Premiership.
The former Warriors’ keeper appears to have made an impact on Bernard, who is a contender for the Golden Glove.
Murambadoro has also helped Bernard better his best clean sheet record of 14 in a season.
“As a coach, I’m really impressed with the level of his consistency, he has been top notch.
“With the season he is having, he is proving to be the best in the league despite stiff competition from his counterparts,” said Murambadoro.
“My job is to help Bernard improve and the statistics reflect the possibility of bigger things to expect from him.”
Murambadoro believes Bernard is now ripe enough for a foreign breakthrough.
“He is very ambitious, and I’m always reminding him to keep working hard and leave everything to God.
“I believe he is now ready to move to a bigger league and I pray for his foreign breakthrough because he deserves it.
“I can’t downplay the competition he has been getting from his competitors, Pride Zendera and Samuel Mafukidze, to keep him on his toes,” he said.
Bernard kept a clean sheet on Friday against Herentals to take his total to 16.
The Golden Glove race still rages on, going into the final fixture, with the likelihood being that honours will be shared.
Bernard, Dynamos’ Taimon Mvula and Ngezi Platinum Stars’ Nelson Chadya, all have 16 clean sheets.
FC Platinum’s Wallace Magalane is on 14.
