Energy minister revises contract

 

Cabinet recently ordered the minister to revise the contract after unearthing irregularities in the deal.

This comes amid reports that an official from one of the two companies had written to the SPB trying to change the context of the award so that the inflated figures would remain unchanged in the contract.

SPB awarded Sino-Hydro the tender for engineering, procurement and construction of the power station after the firm tendered a bid of US$368 million.
Government then scrapped the excise duty from the importation of equipment and the figure was reduced to US$355 million.
