Presidential Affairs and Devolution Permanent Secretary, Engineer Tafadzwa Muguti, is touring champion economic companies across provinces as part of efforts to promote collaboration between the Government and captains of industry.
Speaking on Tuesday during a visit to Blanket Mine in Gwanda, Eng. Muguti said each province had selected a company that is a main contributor to the province’s GDP. He explained that during the tour, he would gain an understanding of how many people have been employed by these companies, the challenges they face, their achievements, and other key issues.
He added that this information would be shared with the principals.
“I requested that all provinces identify their champion economic player, which is the company contributing most to their provincial GDP, and this province chose Blanket Mine. We aim to gain an appreciation of the operations, output, impact of projects, and identify any issues that need to be addressed.

“Going forward, the Minister of State will be involved in how you operate and how she can intervene, acting as a conduit to Central Government on all your economic matters. I’m delighted, and I have seen that in Matabeleland South, you are working as a team,” he said.
Eng. Muguti commended Blanket Mine for having a significant impact on the province of Matabeleland South. He also praised the mining company for its corporate social responsibility initiatives, such as building a school and constructing houses.
Blanket Mine, owned by Caledonia Mining Corporation Plc, produces an average of 1,600 kg of gold per annum and employs over 2,000 people.
