England, Australia clash in first semi-final

ICC U-19 World Cup defending champions, Australia, are taking on England in the first semi-final at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

The two teams go into the knock-out stage high in confidence having won all their five matches in the tournament.

The two sides are battling to secure a place in the finals.

England have won the toss and elected to bat first.

On choosing to bat first, the England captain, Thomas Rew said the team is banking on their past experience at Queens Sports Club after they played two matches at the stadium in the tournament.

“We are going to bat first.

“We have had some experience on this ground, so we will try to use that to our advantage and post a big total,” he said.

England sets Australia 278 target

In a bid to defend their ICC U-19 trophy, defending champions Australia will have to chase a target of 278-runs which has been set by England in the first semi-final being played at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

After winning the toss and electing to bat first, England have set Australia a target of 277 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted overs.

The defending champions of the ICC Men’s U-19 World Cup will have to chase the target as they seek to extend their World Cup triumph to five, having won the title in 1988, 2002, 2010 and 2024.

England will seek to defend the total as they try to end their 28-year wait to win the title, having last won the trophy in 1998.

They have started off to flying start, high scoring 30 runs in the first five overs before losing their first wicket in the sixth over.
