English country cricket teams jet in for a format tour

ZIMBABWE Cricket have confirmed the coming in of two English County cricket teams, Durham and Glamorgan, who will arrive today for a tour against local select sides starting on Saturday in Harare.

The tour, which is part of the two English team’s pre-season, is set to be an all-format series and the Zimbabwean teams that will be playing are the Southerns and Northerns.
The tour will start off with Durham facing Southern and Glamorgan taking on Northerns in three-day action scheduled for March 4-6 at Harare Sports Club and Old Hararians Sports Club respectively.

This will be followed by six T20 matches set for March 8, 9 and 10 at Harare Sports Club, with two matches being played per day. Four 50-over games on 12 and 14 March will then wrap up the tour.
In a statement, Durham, who will be returning to Zimbabwe after their stint in 2020 was cut short due to the Covid-19 pandemic, confirmed that their coming. Glamorgan will be in Zimbabwe for the first time since 1995.

Durham director of cricket, Marcus North said they are looking forward to playing against Zimbabwean teams and having a full tour after their last trip to the country did not go according to schedule.
“We are extremely excited to be returning to Zimbabwe for our pre-season tour after receiving an invitation from Zimbabwe Cricket. Having had a small glimpse back in 2020 we are looking forward to having a full tour this time around.

“Our players and staff will gain valuable experience along with match preparation against quality opposition leading into our summer. As our successful winter training is coming to a close, this tour will provide fantastic preparation for the lads.”
ZC managing director, Givemore Makoni said the tour will provide good exposure to a high level of cricket to upcoming Zimbabwean cricketers and youngsters and are looking forward to it.

“We are thrilled to be welcoming Durham and Glamorgan county teams to our country for a very important tour that will go a long way in exposing especially our young and upcoming players to the rigours of high-level cricket,” he said.
