HARARE businesswoman and ZBC script-writer, Ruth ‘Aunt Rue’ Shoriwa-Shumbayaonda, has published a book which deals with problems faced by girls.

Titled “Ndasiya Ndanyora”, Aunt Rue’s book is written in Shona.

She addresses the plight of the girl child, who is deprived of education, and is sexually abused by the father.

Aunt Rue revealed this was inspired by a boy who drank poison in her neighbourhood after being reprimanded by his mother.

She believes children commit suicide after failing to open up to a third party about their problems.

“As a writer, I encourage parents to treat children in a good way.

“In Ndasiya Ndanyora, the girl child is sexually abused by her biological father, who is also not paying for her education.

“At the end, the child commits suicide and I encourage every child to look for help from a third party,” she said.

Meanwhile, Aunt Rue was overwhelmed after her book was purchased for US$2500 by one reader, only identified as Timothy.

Brighton Shumbayawonda had a bid of  US$1500 accepted while the third bid went for US$650.

Aunt Rue said she has released several books, including “Chandisati Ndaona”, “Kurukuvhute Kune Mheremhere”, “Muzinda Wakashaya Mambo” and “Tonderai”.

She has vowed to continue writing books and poems for schools.
