Entumbane tops at rugby tourney

Entumbane High School were crowned champions at the schools under 16 Old Mutual Community Rugby tournament at Hartsfield in Bulawayo. The team thrashed Sobukhazi High School team 8-0 in the final match, after beating every opponent that came in their path in the knockout stages. Entumbane High

School rugby coach Emmanuel Sibanda said that his team were well prepared for the event and deserved to walk away as the champions of the event.

“We were prepared for the event and I feel the boys deserve to be the champions of the event,” said Sibanda.

The event was graced by Information Media and Broadcasting Services Deputy Minister Supa Mandiwanzira and his Sport, Arts and Culture counterpart Tabeth Kanengoni-Malinga.

The rugby fiesta marked the end of an eight-month programme by Old Mutual designed to promote rugby in schools from economically disadvantaged communities.

Eight schools took part in the tournament with the initiative set to ultimately result in a bigger pool.
