WITH the “Big Sunday” euphoria on the domestic soccer league already in full swing, Highlanders have decided not to hike gate charges in a bid to entice more people to attend their league match against Dynamos at Barbourfields Stadium. Soccer fans will pay $3 they are accustomed to for the rest of the ground, $5 for the wings and $10 for the VIP section.
“People expected us to increase the gate charges since it’s a big game, but we resolved to maintain the fee to get our loyal and sport loving fans coming to the match.
“However, the only appeal we are making is for our fans to support the ‘Dollar for Bosso’ campaign by donating at least $1 at the gates to boost the club’s coffers,” said Highlanders treasurer Donald Ndebele.
Matches involving Highlanders and Dynamos have always been a cash cow for service providers, the club and stakeholders, who include vendors and transporters.
With gate charges unchanged, a full house is expected at Emagumeni.
Highlanders board chairman Mgcini Nkolomi has also appealed for calm at Sunday’s match.
“This is our El Classico and we’re aware of the emotions and passion that goes with it, but it’s a family event meant to be entertaining and we want it to be peaceful.
“No matter how many times Dynamos beat us, this still remains a sport and that’s why we’re appealing for calm,” Nkolomi said.
