as Melina’s vocal prowess.
Formed in 2010, Epic Minds is comprised of long-time friends Eddie K. Hatitye and Tafadzwa Chimbwa aka D.o.g.Z.
Last year their song “Jiva” was chosen by international brand Red Bull for use in the prestigious Red Bull Beat Battle Competition.
They have received airplay and done interviews in Switzerland, Namibia and South Africa.
Currently, they are working on a conceptual album called “Producers Without Boarders”, which aims to stimulate powerful collaborations between musicians from across Africa.
Commenting on the song last week, Melina told South African journalist, “Firstly, I loved the beat by Epic Minds, it had something unique about it.
“The concept later came to me and I drew inspiration from an experience I’m sure most people go through in relationships. The song speaks of that hesitant feeling you get before calling or texting someone you like.”
“Telephone” serves as the lead single for Melina’s debut album “Breaking Ice”, scheduled for release later this year.
With over two million YouTube views and a partnership with Universal Music Group, Melina is one of the most promising female artists in South Africa at the moment.
In June 2011, she was selected (by international judges including Fergie from Black Eyed Peas and Natasha Bedingfield) as one of only four African female vocalists to participate in Avon’s global singing competition.
In December 2011, she performed as the opening act for Lil Wayne’s tour in Johannesburg.
She has collaborated with SA rapper Proverb, on a song called “Legacy” and has also performed at the Grahamstown Arts festival.
