An Epworth trio was dragged to court yesterday after they allegedly stole batteries from Econet network boosters.

The three Christopher Makamelo alias Nyambuya 60, Tinotenda Nathan Madzima 33 and Nosilathi Mahellow Moyo 25 were not asked to plead when they appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo.

The court heard that on April 4, the informant visited the Econet Booster located at Zimre Park and he left everything intact.

On April 21, he was notified that unknown people had used an unknown object to break the wall of the Econet booster.

The trio and their accomplices managed to steal two Huwaei Lithium batteries valued at US$2500, 50 litres of petrol valued at US$78 and went on to cut off an armoured cable.

On the second count, the court heard that on April 21, the second informant was on patrol along Zime Way when he noticed that the Econet Booster lights were not flashing.

He went to investigate and discovered that the thieves used an unknown object to break the burglar bars.

They stole a Lithium battery valued at US$2500 and 80 litres of diesel valued at US$124.

Detectives from CID Homicide received information that Makamelo was involved in these crimes and had been spotted in Jacha Epworth.

Detectives acted on the information leading to his arrest and he implicated his accomplices who were arrested after a shootout with police.
