Hospitals that benefited from the donation were Harare General Hospital, Edith Oppermann Maternal Ward in Mbare, Phakama Clinic in Gwanda, Mabvuku Polyclinic, Marondera Provi-ncial Hospital and Mtapa Clinic in Gweru. Zimhealth liaison officer Mr Francis Ndowa said they mobilised resources through various fundraising activities in Geneva.
He said their motive was to help improve service delivery in hospitals.
“We mobilised finances and materials to support health services in our country,” said Mr Ndowa.
“It is important that we share what we have with the whole country. We raised some of the money through selling traditional food, Zimbabwean curios and art in the Diaspora. We also committed ourselves to donating money every month which we used to buy hospital equipment while some of it came from well-wishers. It is hoped that the equipment helps restore confidence in our health system.”
Zimhealth advisor Mr Marlon Zakeyo said their organisation would continue to support health initiatives in Zimbabwe. He said their organisation would source more equipment that would be donated to rural clinics and township polyclinics.
Mbare’s Edith Opperman sister-in-charge Judith Chibanda said the equipment would assist in reducing infant mortality.
