Upcoming gospel singer Eria Chikwani’s first copy of his new album titled “Kukwana Kwenguva” was sold for US$150 at an auction during its launch on Wednesday in Harare.The eight-track album features a medley of sound including sungura and afro-contemporary a sign that shows where Eria draws his inspiration.
The album launch was attended by members from his church – Bethel Assemblies in Budiriro as well as pastors from other denominations. The granddad of gospel music Baba Mechanic Manyeruke and songstress Carol Mujokoro also graced the album launch.
Speaking at the event, deputy director in the Ministry of Media, Information and Publicity Collins Mungate who was standing in for outgoing Minister Webster Shamu, urged people to continue praying for peace and that sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe must be lifted.
“The church is there to promote peace and we need you to continue praying for President Mugabe pray for peace and also pray that sanctions must go. The sanctions are devilish,” Mungate said.
He said gospel music was vital in promoting peace and that it had the power to build a nation.
The first single off “Kukwana Kwenguva” `is called “Gare Gare” and it talks about people who forget that judgment day is coming.
Other songs that are on the album are “Jesu Makabatebasa”, “Toramba Tichienda Mberi”, “Ndinomunamata”, “Unherera”, “Tiregerere” and “Shoko Renyu (Fidias)”.
