ERRP2 transforms Chegutu roads

Mashonaland West Bureau

THE Government’s Emergency Road Rehabilitation Programme (ERRP) and involvement of some private sector players, has started to change the face of roads in the gold and farming town of Chegutu.

Through ERRP2, Chegutu Municipality contracted a local company to work on various roads in the town.

The contractor has begun rehabilitating Queen Street, with attention also given to the drainage system.

Council has battled clogged drainage systems that resulted in flash flooding in the event of heavy rains.

“Delivery of the culvert pipes and concrete stones has already been done while the initial works are expected to commence this coming week,” said Chegutu Municipality spokesperson Mr Brian Nkiwane last week.

In its private partnerships, the council worked with Pickstone Mine to rehabilitate the Pickstone Road. The mine hired a contractor who was working to improve accessibility of Pickstone Road, which connects the town with the mine, servicing commercial and communal farmers along the 20km stretch.

“As council, we approached Pickstone Mine after realising that the machinery we have was not in a good shape to work on the Pickstone Road which they also use regularly.”
