FORMER Zimbabwean cricketer Sean Ervine is on the verge of turning into a professional golfer.
After enjoying a successful 19-year cricket career for both Zimbabwe and English county cricket for Hampshire, before retiring last September, the 36-year-old all-rounder qualified for the MENA Tour in the Middle East at the end of this month.
“We always have some of these games between ourselves on the golf course. I was always winning here and there and the boys always take me on.
“It certainly got to a point where I believed in myself.
“Now that I had a professional cricket career this gives me an opportunity to go out there and see how it goes.
“There is no reason why I can’t succeed, yes there are different fundamentals to the game with cricket being a team sport and golf an individual sport, but I was really excited to go,’’ said Ervine.
His brother, Craig, still plays professional cricket for Zimbabwe.
Meanwhile, top professional golfer Scott Vincent finished tied on 24th place in the SMBC Singapore Open Trophy to pocket $8 720.
The tournament was won by Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond.
