THE European Union Ambassador to Zimbabwe, Her Excellency Ms Katrin Hagemann, has died.
In a statement on Friday morning, the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe said Ambassador Hagemann passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on September 3, 2026.
“It is with deep sadness that we confirm the sudden and unexpected passing of H.E. Ms Katrin Hagemann, Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Zimbabwe, on 3 September 2026,” the statement read.
The delegation extended heartfelt condolences to her family, loved ones, colleagues and all those mourning the loss.
“In respect for the privacy of the family at this difficult time, there will be no further comments at this time,” the statement added.
The EU Delegation said a Book of Condolences will be open to the public from Monday, September 7 to Thursday, September 10, 2026, from 10am to 4pm, at the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe.
In a condolence message posted on his X handle, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Mr Nick Mangwana described Ambassador Hagemann as a gracious diplomat and sincere partner.
“We are deeply saddened by the passing of H.E. Katrin Hagemann, Head of the EU Delegation to Zimbabwe. Accredited just last December, she arrived with renewed commitment, continuing the positive trajectory of strengthening and maturing Zimbabwe-EU relations.
“Our heartfelt condolences to her family, colleagues, the diplomatic community and the EU. May she rest in peace,” said Mr Mangwana.
Ambassador Hagemann presented her credentials to President Mnangagwa in December 2025.
