EVANGELIST Prim Khumalo briefly abandoned the pulpit and went into the studio to record her single titled “Mukuru”, which was released last week.

The preacher, who is the wife of Pastor Vusumuzi Khumalo, of PAOZ Upper Room Ministries in Harare, told The Sunday Mail Society that the song reveals the greatness of God and seeks to complement his biblical teachings in spreading the gospel.

The song, according to the preacher-cum-musician, also praises the Lord and highlights His superiority over everything on earth.

“The song was written with inspiration from the Bible and it highlights the greatness of God. It reflects on how God defeats evil spirits,” she said.

“Mukuru”, according to the charismatic preacher and singer, was drawn from Psalms 48:1, which reads: “Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised in the city of our God, in the mountain of his holiness.”

The song accommodates those who are attracted to God’s Word through song and dance.

“In my ministry, I have realised that there are some congregants who love songs more than reading the Bible. Some congregants cannot read or write, so they can learn the scriptures by listening to my songs,” the 37-year-old evangelist said.

Plans are underway for the preacher-cum-singer to work with other gospel musicians. She believes collaborations are good for gospel music as there is a single objective — spreading the Word.

“As the servants of God, we are obliged to play our role of spreading the good news so that the Word of God can reach all the corners of the earth,” she said.

Evangelist Khumalo marked her debut in the music industry in 2017 with a single titled “Indonsakusa”.

In 2019, she released a seven-track album titled “In Heavenly Places”, which carries tracks like “Unsatisfied”, “Sithu Phakeme” and “King of all Days”.

In total, she has so far released a single album and 10 singles.
