Martin Chedondo said Zimbabweans must freely discuss about how best to protect the nation even in beerhalls.
“We expect all Zimbabweans to be discussing on how best we can collectively secure our nation wherever they are even in beerhalls let your major issue of discussion be security unlike fighting for women and other useless issues.
“This country has been under sanctions for a very long time and the expectation was that we were going to falter but we have converted the sanctions into opportunities. This country is not for soldiers alone but for all citizens. It therefore calls for collective efforts to safeguard it.”
He said Zimbabwe was the best inheritance for future generations.
“We must not sell our heritage for cheap monetary gains,” he said.
Major General Chedondo said it was important for soldiers to fully maximise available resources making sure nothing is being wasted.
He said the army is now full of young blood who are making the organisation proud by the way they are grasping national ideologies and values.
“If I look at the majority of you handisi kuona face dzebasa, ndiri kungoona mababy faces (I do not see a single face suitable to be that of a soldier, all I see are baby faces) but I am proud to note those baby faces have clear vision about where the country is going.
“We are under sanctions and every resource we give you must be used carefully. If we give you 30 bullets we expect you to kill 30 enemies,” he added.
Cde Chinx Chingaira who was also taking part in the shooting competition said war veterans were proud to be in constant touch with the army where they continue to sharpen their shooting skills which they last exhibited during the liberation struggle.
He said now that the army had given them the green light to discuss freely on how best to secure the nation even in beer halls, the nation was never going to be in the hands of the enemy.
The shooting competition saw shootists from all army units, Harare Metropolitan police, war veterans, Zimbabwe Prison Service, President’s department, Fawcett Security and individual civilians competing for trophies and prize money.
