Ewing doubtful for Logan Cup showdown

take on Mountaineers in the final of the Logan Cup tournament that gets underway at Mutare Sports Club this morning.
Ewing, who has played a crucial role with the bat in the Tuskers top order this season, has been battling a shoulder dislocation in the past few days.
Ewing has been grounded since the team’s nine-wicket defeat at the hands of Southern Rocks in the limited-overs Metbank Pro40 semi-final on Saturday.
“I haven’t been practicing although I remain hopeful of recovering. But I wouldn’t want to promise that I’ll be fine as it all depends on how I work out today (yesterday),” said Ewing.
Tuskers are eyeing their first silverware since the inception of the franchise system two years ago.
The Bulawayo-based franchise are also hoping that all-rounder Keagan Meth will be fit in time as he has also been nursing an injury from the MetBank Pro40 semi-final.
Sean Williams is out as he is still recovering from the injuries picked up during the World Cup tournament in India.
Ewing said Tuskers, who like their opponents Mountaineers now hope to win the Logan Cup to finish the season with a piece of silverware, will remain focused.
“We had a very good season compared to last year. We have come a long way with Heath Streak and Dave Houghton at the helm and we hope to continue improving next season.
“It was disappointing to lose in the semi-finals of the MetBank Pro40 Championships but this is our final chance for the season.
“Hopefully the game will go our way,” said Ewing
Tuskers had a good season finishing second behind Mountaineers in the first class league games.
Mountaineers on their part will be hoping to make full use of home advantage as they hope for a consolation after losing their bid in the semi-finals of the limited-overs game, despite being the best performing team at the end of the round-robin phase in both leagues.
Gary Brent’s side finished unbeaten in the Logan Cup matches and will be looking forward to continue with the form in the final.
