War vets’ leader slams West’s attacks on Libya

countries that are bombing Libya for interfering in the affairs of a sovereign state.
Cde Sibanda was speaking at the Masvingo Provincial Heroes Acre at the burial of the vice chairman of the war veterans body, Cde Cosmos Gonese.
Cde Gonese died last week after a short illness and was declared a provincial hero.
Cde Sibanda said, “It’s a shame that the West is bombing Libya which is an African nation and the man who is behind that is (US President Barack) Obama.
“He wants to be like one of them (the West) but he must look into the mirror and see his nose, it’s just like any other black man’s nose.
“Obama must look at the colour of his skin – it is also black; so why is he behind the killing of fellow Africans?
“That nonsense has to stop.”
This comes as our senior reporter Augustine Hwata reports from Bamako that thousands of Malians on Friday took to the streets to demonstrate against the invasion of Libya.
The demonstration began as NATO forces moved in to take over from French and US-led forces.
Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has massive support in Mali by having helped that country’s infrastructure development.
Bamako is regarded the fastest-growing city in Africa and sixth fastest in the world.
Most of the protesters gathered on the main round about in Mali Street near the Colonel Muammar Gaddafi Centre and marched towards the southern markers of the towns.
They carried placards denouncing President Obama and French President Nicolas Sakorzy. President Mugabe and other world leaders – including those from Germany and Turkey – have condemned the invasion of Libya saying the situation could have been better managed.
