Former AMG Global fleet manager, Never Makova, was hauled to court over the weekend for allegedly defrauding an insurance company.

Makova was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi, who remanded him in custody to today for bail considerations.

The complainant is Alliance Insurance Private Limited represented by Blessing Chamaida, the loss control officer.

Allegations are that on April 7, 2016, CMED Harare purchased a Jeep Cherokee and issued it to the general manager, Steven Mavura.

On July 20, 2018, CMED sold the car to Mavura, who surrendered the number plate to CMED and a foster was affixed on a newly imported Toyota Landcruiser.

The Landcruiser was involved in an accident while being driven by a government official, who reported the accident at ZRP Avondale.

CMED approached the procurement unit, which engaged several panel beaters, namely Fine Eye, Auto Speed Body and Floyd Enterprises for quotations.

On May 11, 2021, Fine Eye Panel Beaters were awarded the job to repair the Landcruiser at a cost of $777 913.

The Landcruiser was towed to its premises and it was repaired.

CMED paid cash for the repairs and the car was returned.

It was alleged that on June 10, 2021, Alliance Insurance received instructions to renew AMG Global Advisory Services insurance motor fleet policy number FXDMTFLP0031496 from Makova.

On the updated list was the Landcruiser and Makova allegedly connived with the late Albert Kaseke, the owner of Fine Eye Panel Beaters, to make misrepresentations that it was Kaseke’s car.

The list was forwarded to Alliance Insurance by Makova.

On June 24, Makova raised the fake claims that the car had been involved in an accident and acting on the misrepresentation, Alliance Insurance deposited $1 700 325 into Fine Eye’s bank account as payment for the repairs.

Makova and Kaseke allegedly connived and duped the insurance company again of US$66 000 in another fake claim.
