A WELL-WISHER based in the United States, Xoey Chirenda, has said she tithes by helping the Seke community.
Chirenda, through her VaChirenda Centre of Hope Foundation, established VCH Swans FC, a women’s team which will compete in the ZIFA Eastern Region Division One.
VCH Swans FC will be based in Seke.
Last Friday, she hosted a tournament for four secondary schools in a bid to scout for girls to recruit for her team.
Member of Parliament for Seke, Munyaradzi Kashambe, watched the tournament.
Fifteen players from the four teams made the grade.
Beatrice Makaza from Chirimamhunga High took home the player of the tournament accolade.
Chirimamhunga were crowned champions after getting the better of Jonasi High 1-0 in the final.
Chikonde and Kandava High also participate in this tournament held at Madamombe Primary.
Chirenda said her dream is to see one of the players playing in Europe.
Ernest Manandi, who is young brother to Golden Eagles president, Barry, is also expected to be part of the team’s leadership.
“I was born and raised here, and it breaks my heart to see these girls dropping out of school, abandoning their dreams because of reasons beyond their control.
“But after realising that I have a big role to play in supporting and motivating these girls, I decided to come up with this project.
“I give my tithe through helping these girls and it’s something which I feel like I haven’t started,” said Chirenda.
She also explained what motivated her to join the Eastern Region.
“I usually donate things in this area like thrice a year, and I realised it wasn’t enough to keep these girls busy or to motivate them to some extent.
“We decided to form a football club which will see these girls making a living from.
“And for those who can’t play, we will create many opportunities within the club just to keep the girl child busy and we are hopeful,” she said.
Tinovimba Trust was also present at the tournament and donated sanitary wear and stationery to students in attendance.
Tinovimba helps single and widowed women in marginalised communities in Kariba.
It’s the brainchild of another US-based philanthropist, Chenayi Siachakanzwa.
