AN ex-convict, who was released through an amnesty, was back in court yesterday facing fresh charges.

He is alleged to have produced an illegal firearm in a bid to save his wife who was being held for theft.

Kudakwashe Taona Ngwere, who previously served a jail sentence for culpable homicide, is now being charged for unlawful possession of a firearm.

The court heard that on Sunday, at around 11.30am, Ngwere went to house number 23986 Budiriro 5B, where his wife Munashe Hlasera was being held hostage on suspicion that she was a criminal.

Ngwere, who was allegedly armed with a revolver, demanded the release of his wife. Occupants at the house, together with other members of the public, confronted him and managed to disarm him.

The firearm was loaded with one round and he was subsequently arrested.
