Ex-cop demands maintenance from wife

A PENSIONER has dragged his “police officer” wife to court demanding $175 maintenance.

Amon Siduli, who is undergoing teacher training at the Joshua Mqabuko Nkomo Polytechnic, dragged his wife Jessinah Siduli, whom he said is a police officer stationed in Bulawayo, to the Gwanda Civil Court seeking maintenance.

Amon said he wanted money to buy groceries, clothing, pay rent and medical expenses.

“I need my wife to support me because I’m a student at JMN Polytechnic. We’re currently living separately because she’s based in Bulawayo where she’s a police officer and is earning about $500.

“I’m also maintaining our child.”

Jessinah said she would not be able to give a single cent to Siduli as he abandoned her after getting a $20,000 lump sum payment upon retirement as a police officer.

She also denied that she was a police officer but said she worked as a general hand at a police station in Bulawayo, earning about $481 every month.

“This man disappeared after getting his $20,000 in 2013 and only resurfaced this year on August 20. He also has maintenance arrears of $1,950 which he defaulted paying for our 10-year-old child,” said Jessinah.

She said she also borrowed money from a bank and was repaying the loan.

Magistrate Olivia Mashava Mashaire postponed the matter to November 23.

She advised Jessinah to bring her pay slip and proof that she was repaying a bank loan.

The magistrate told Amon to bring proof that he had been paying maintenance for their child.
