FORMER Chitungwiza Councillor, John Matiyenga, is expected to appear in court tomorrow after allegedly duping three men of US$13,000 in a commercial stand deal in Manyame Park.
It is alleged Matiyenga produced fake council documents and promised 150 square metres of commercial stand space to Siphelani, Shepherd Tichawona and Tonderai Veremu.
The stand had already been acquired by Ishmael Mushure, the registered owner.
According to court papers, the former councillor allegedly benefited to the tune of more than US$13,000 from the three victims.
Veremu, one of the complainants, lost about US$7,000, which included money he had already paid towards a foundation.
The case has been set for hearing at the Chitungwiza Magistrate Court.
An affidavit filed by Mushure says he is the owner of Stand Number 10186, St Mary’s Township, Chitungwiza. The affidavit says Mushure was allocated the commercial stand in 2015 by the Urban Development Corporation and the Chitungwiza Municipality.
The affidavit further claims that in December last year, Mushure found out that Veremu had unlawfully invaded the stand.
Mushure then attempted to contact Veremu, advising him that he was not the lawful owner. Veremu told him he had bought the stand from Matiyenga.
