FORMER Black Aces football star Simon Mudzudzu has died.

He was 73 years old.

Mudzudzu died in the United States of America where he had relocated with his family. Family sources confirmed the death.

However, details of the funeral arrangements are still sketchy. Although he might not be a familiar name to the present generation of football fans, Mudzudzu made his name in the 1970s and the early 1980s.

He featured in the title-grabbing Metal Box team of 1973 under Allen Davey, alongside July “Jujuju” Sharara, Oliver Kateya, Austin Nehumba, Peter Manyara, Shadreck Kateya, Sunday Chidzambwa, and Chita Antonio.

Those with a sharp memory will recall how he once formed a twin center-back partnership with football icon Chidzambwa at Metal Box in the 1970s.

He also played for Chibuku Shumba and newly-formed Black Aces, with whom he won the Chibuku Trophy and the Nyore Nyore Shield in their debut season in 1977.
