The National Pharmaceuticals Company (NatPharm) has received a donation of medical supplies and equipment worth approximately US$1,8 million from the World Health Organisation (WHO) and its partners.

The donation includes cholera kits, medicines, medical sundries, x-ray machines, and theatre equipment.

This will enhance Zimbabwe’s response to public health emergencies.

In his acceptance speech, Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora said: “We are honoured to accept these life-saving supplies and equipment provided by our esteemed partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Government of Japan, the United Nations Central Emergency Response Fund (UNCERF), and USAID.

“This generous contribution reflects an unwavering commitment to supporting Zimbabwe in our fight against cholera and other public health challenges.”

Speaking at the same event, WHO’s representative for Zimbabwe, Dr Desta Tiruneh said the donated equipment will significantly improve the country’s ability to diagnose a wide range of diseases, including diabetes and kidney problems.

“This handover demonstrates the strong collaboration between the Government of Zimbabwe, WHO and its partners as we continue to prioritise the health of all Zimbabweans.”
