FORMER Lady Chevrons player Sarah Dambanevana is set to make her officiating debut at the T20 World Cup next month.
Dambanevana is part of an all-female match officials panel set to officiate at the ninth edition of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup.
She is among 10 umpires picked by the ICC for the T20 World Cup to be hosted in the United Arab Emirates.
Leading the list of umpires is Claire Polosak, who will be standing in her fifth T20 World Cup having officiated in the last four editions of the tournament.
Kim Cotton and Jacqueline Williams will be making their fourth appearances at the tournament, having officiated in the previous edition’s final between South Africa and Australia.
Dambanevana, who officiated in last year’s Under-19 World Cup final between India and England, is set for her debut appearance at the tournament.
ICC Senior manager-umpires and referees Sean Easey said the selection of an all-female panel for this year’s edition is part of their objective to advance women in sport.
“The ICC is proud to be contributing to the advancement of women in our sport.
“To be announcing this all-female line-up of match officials for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 is wonderful,” said Easey.
“This group, selected as the most deserving umpires for this event following their recent form in bilateral and other cricket, are some of the very best from around the world.
“We are confident that they will do a great job at this event. I wish them the best of luck as they oversee the world’s top women’s cricketers in what will be an exciting tournament for all involved.”
The tournament gets underway on October 3
