Former MDC-99 organising secretary, Gideon Magadzire together with a 37 year-old Shurugwi man yesterday appeared before a Gweru magistrate for allegedly forging a class two driver’s licence.Magadzire, 52, of Mkoba 15 in Gweru and Cosmas Chiuswa, 37, of Nyagari South under Chief Nhema in Shurugwi appeared before provincial magistrate Sibongile Msipa who remanded them on free bail to December 15 for continuation of trial.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Prosecuting, Kelvin Guvheya told the court that on an unknown date but during the month of October this year Magadzire and Chiuswa connived with a common purpose and forged a public document.
The court heard that the two allegedly forged a class two driver’s licence bearing Chiuswa’s names and national identity card number. Guvheya said the forged licence bears a date stamp from the Vehicle Inspection Depot in Bulawayo.
It is alleged that having forged the document, Chiuswa took it and went on to use it as genuine driver’s licence making a misrepresentation to any one in authority.
The state alleges that police in Gweru received a tip off that Chiuswa was using a fake driver’s licence.
The court heard that Chiuswa was then approached by the police who requested to see his driver’s licence and Chiuswa produced the counterfeit document.
The court heard that the detectives interrogated Chiuswa who then revealed that he got the document from Magadzire whom he paid $250.
Guvheya said the detectives arrested Magadzire who revealed that the document was forged by a man who has since died.
