Ex-MP Matutu back in court

Midlands Reporter
Former MDC-T MP Tongai Matutu who is facing a charge of defaulting maintenance was yesterday back in court. Gweru magistrate, Tendai Madanire, had the case removed from remand and Matutu’s case will now proceed by way of summons. Matutu, of Rhodene in Masvingo, is said to have failed to pay for the upkeep of his four-year-old daughter that he sired with a Kwekwe woman, Tendai Makura. Madanire ruled that the case be put off remand arguing that there were some investigations that still needed to be carried out by the police.
Bernard Nyoni for the state, said Matutu defaulted paying maintenance amounting to $4,000 for the upkeep of his daughter and ex-lover.

Nyoni alleged that Matutu and Makura had been dating for 17 years until they broke up in 2012 and they had a four-year-old daughter.
He said after the two broke up, Makura dragged Matutu to court seeking maintenance for the upkeep of their daughter as well as her clothing allowance.

The court heard that in June last year, the matter was heard before the Gweru Civil Court which ruled in favour of Makura and ordered Matutu to pay $300 every month for the upkeep of the child and clothing allowance for his ex-girlfriend.

Nyoni alleged that Matutu defied the court order and failed to pay.
