COMMISSIONER-General of Police, Stephen Mutamba, brought together former senior cops when he relaunched the Police Client Service Charter during the Police Recruits Graduation Parade.

Among the notable former senior officers, who were present at the Police Recruits Graduation Parade in Harare yesterday, were former Commissioner-General Godwin Matanga and former Deputy Commissioner Generals Innocent Matibiri and Josephine Shambare.

Also in attendance were former Depot Commandant Grace Ndebele and senior officers Justice Chengeta, David Mahoya, Grace Maenzanise, Erasmus Makodza, Moses Magandi, and Prudence Chakanyuka. One of the former senior officers commended CGP Mutamba for inviting them to the event.

“To be honest, CGP Mutamba is doing great things and I am happy to be invited here.

‘I last set my foot here eight years ago and today I felt part of the current police service,” he said.

Addressing guests, CGP Mutamba said the police approach should not be prescriptive but collaborative. He said it should be focused on building meaningful and productive partnerships with the communities which the force serves.

“Today’s graduation marks yet another milestone in our quest as the Zimbabwe Republic Police to modernise our operations in line with contemporary policing demands.

“I am proud to note that these graduating members hold Diplomas in Police Studies.

“This programme, offered through our collaboration with the University of Zimbabwe, was a deliberate initiative to integrate academic research and deep theoretical underpinning with practical training, in order to address national policing needs effectively.

“Modern policing is complex and multifaceted and such challenges can only be addressed through dynamic and continuous human capital development.  Importantly, the communities we serve are willing to collaborate with us when we demonstrate professionalism and commitment to service.  Indeed, this principle lies at the heart of our strategic orientation towards quality service delivery.”

He added:  “Our ability to achieve the aspirations of the National Development Strategy 2, as the nation progresses towards upper middle-income status, is anchored in effective community policing.  “Without doubt, the old adage that we are the fish and the communities are the water remains as relevant today as ever.”

A total of 797 recruits graduated.
