Ex-soldier faces string of charges

AN ex-soldier has been dragged to court facing charges of possessing ammunition, and camouflage, years after he left the Zimbabwe National Army.

Petros Mubaiwa, (37) was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Dennis Mangosi.

Mubaiwa was remanded in custody to today for bail application.

Allegations are that on Thursday last week, police detectives were carrying out investigations of robbery cases, in which Mubaiwa has been charged.

He led detectives to his sister’s place in Norton where they found ammunition, and ZNA camouflage uniforms, he was using to commit robbery.

Further searches conducted led to the discovery of a loaded magazine with live ammunition, four camouflage army jackets, two pairs of army camouflage trousers, three pairs of combat boots and two green army berets.

The police said they were yet to recover the firearm used in several robberies.

Mubaiwa said he left the army in 2018.
