EX-TEACHER TURNS INTO A FIGHTER AGAINST DRUG AND SUBSTANCE ABUSE

A FORMER primary school teacher, Donald Chitanha, is complimenting the Government’s efforts in the fight against drug and substance abuse.

Chitanha is spearheading the Chinhoyi Against Drug Abuse initiative.

He said it is imperative to support the Government’s efforts in its fight against the scourge that has claimed the lives of many people, especially the youths.

“I am thrilled to see the police taking a strong stance against drug abuse in our community.

“I hope they will target known major drug bases to set a precedent for amateur peddlers and abusers.

“I am heartened to hear that they have arrested a drug peddler in the Chinhoyi CBD and I trust that the courts will hand down a judgment that will serve as a deterrent to others,” said Chitanha. He added:

“I urge everyone, including teachers, pastors, parents, politicians and the youths themselves, to join forces in the fight against this pandemic.

“Together, we can create drug-free zones in our community. It’s time for us to take collective action and protect our young people from the scourge of drug abuse.

“My wish is that if we get partners, and funding, I can do more in fighting against drug and substance abuse.”

Chitanha said they have engaged a Non-Governmental Organisation, which fights drug abuse, to come and train volunteers to join the organisation he is leading.

“We are targeting five youths per ward and their main role will be fighting against drug and substance abuse.

“They will also help in identifying any drug base in their wards.”
