Ex-Zesa HR manager gets suspended sentence

sentenced to a wholly suspended six month jail term.
Emelda Mvelasi (45) of Mount Pleasant escaped a custodial sentence after being strongly cautioned by magistrate Ms Fadzai Mutavayi.
The six-month jail term was wholly suspended on condition that Mvelasi does not commit a similar offence involving dishonesty in the next five years. Mvelasi was facing forgery charges to which she pleaded guilty.
Prosecutor Ms Auxillia Mangwaira told the court that Mvelasi was once employed as the human resources manager at Zesa.
Mvelasi wrote a letter on a Zesa letterhead addressed to the Australian embassy on May 13 this year in which she forged senior manager (administration) Sarah Dube’s signature. She intended to use the letter to secure a visa to travel to Australia.
