CASTLE Cup winning former Ziscosteel Football Club midfielder Njabulo Zulu has died. He passed on at Mpilo Hospital in Bulawayo on Saturday and will be buried at West Park Cemetery this morning.
He was 61.
Zulu suffered a stroke due to what friends said was as a result of work-related stress.
Family spokesperson Benedict Moyo, who also played alongside the late Zulu in the 1978 Castle Cup winning Ziscosteel side that was coached by Paul Moyo, described Zulu as one of the most intelligent midfield players he ever met.
“He was someone who could socialize with anyone.
“He was part of us in 1978 when we won the Castle Cup alongside players like Victor Dliwayo, our captain then Clement Sibanda and his loss is indeed a great loss to us,” said Moyo, a former national team coach and Zifa board member, competitions.
Zulu joined a then star studded Ziscosteel side in 1973 from KB Rockets and played for the steel men until retirement in 1980.
“When he retired, Zulu remained active in football behind the scenes.
“He was part of the Ziscosteel FC executive as the link between the technical bench and the executive.
“The family has lost a bread winner,” said Moyo.
Zulu leaves behind a wife and five children, two girls and three boys.
Mourners are gathered at R59 in Mzilikazi.
