THERE is excitement in Filabusi following Filabusi United’s relegation survival in the Zifa Central Region Division One League.
Amalala Ndawonye made sure they will be playing Division One football next year when they defeated Dulibadzimu United 1-0 in Filabusi last Saturday with Takudzwa Bande scoring the only goal of the match.
That saw them record only their fifth win of the season to go with the 16 draws they had secured.
Filabusi United, who played Black Eagles away yesterday had 31 points, the same as Shabanie Mine, the Chinda Boys who also survived demotion.
Gokwe United, the only team that could catch up with Filabusi United and Shabanie Mine were suspended from the CRSL at the beginning of this month for failing to fulfil three sanctioned league matches.
Filabusi United president, Kelvin Ngwenya is excited to see the team prolong their stay in Division One where they made their debut this year.
“Having been on the edge of the seat for better part of the season, which compelled to have little or no room for error, survival cannot come at a sweeter time than this,’’ Ngwenya said.
He feels that they have learnt their lessons this year and will try their best come 2020 where they aim to finish in a better position.
“I’m glad we learnt all these lessons and I believe we will be a better side next year. We have cut our teeth in competitive football and Filabusi will finish high next season.”
He expressed his gratitude to their fans all over the world and to the people of Filabusi for their continued support throughout this season.
“That being said and done I’m grateful for our fans across the globe and uGodlwayo as a whole who continued to support us through even in tough times. I call upon the corporate world to come on board and help us have a better 2020 season,’’ said Ngwenya.
Stanley Dube, the Filabusi United assistant coach is also thrilled that they managed to survive the dreaded chop.
“Everyone is happy that we have survived. We needed to collect points from our remaining games, four points in two matches is wonderful,’’ Dube said.
Filabusi United sought to make a huge impression in the CRSL after being promoted from the Matabeleland South Division Two League. They, however, found the going tough in their maiden season and have to hope for better fortunes next year.
