Exciting line-up for dancehall clash

Zimbabwe’s finest dancehall chanters and DJs.
Some of the artistes expected to feature at the clash include Winky D aka Ninja President, Freeman, Sniper Storm, Guspy Warrior, Jiggaz, Lady Squanda and Lady Bee.
The clash will not only feature the most celebrated dancehall artistes, but it will see some of the renowned dancehall DJs spinning the wheel on the same night.
Templeman, Judgement Yard — a collection of dancehall DJs — Garry B, Smiley, Mighty Ducks and Abra Simms will also rock dancehall enthusiasts.
DJ Smiley is well known for his Ignition Party on Power FM or Foxy Wednesdays at Red Fox Hotel, while Templeman has become a household name for his contribution in the growth and development of dancehall.
While there is no doubt that Winky D and Sniper Storm will be the major drawcards, it will however, be folly to dismiss Freeman and Guspy Warrior, who are steadily moving up to the ladder.
Already, the collaboration that Freeman and Guspy Warrior worked on titled “Ita Yaunoita” is currently receiving favourable airplay on local radio stations and is a hit with youths.
On the other hand, Jiggaz, Lady B and dancehall “queen” Lady Squanda, will certainly give Winky D and others a good run for their money.
Those in the know will attest that Lady Squanda has already shown that she has got the tenacity, stamina, energy and drive to become one of the best female chanters Zimbabwe has ever had.
Her ability on stage, vocal intonation, and wave of energy is unmatched. She gave a good account of herself when she performed at the Jamaicans’ Mavado and Agent Sasco shows.
In an interview, Lady Squanda said she would use the platform to unveil some of her latest singles.
“I am honoured to perform at this show and I will unleash some of my latest offerings that include ‘Tamba Neni’, a collaboration I did with the South African-based Nox Guni,” she said.
Dancehall music has emerged as one of the fastest growing genres in the country.
Aside the alleged claims of sabotage, “beefs”, stealing each other’s songs and time on stage, the dancehall industry is getting hotter by the day. The genre is growing as attested by the rising number of artistes who are coming onto the scene with their brands.
In the last five years, dancehall fans have seen the emergence of King Shaddy, King Labash, Dadza D, Guspy Warrior, Badman, Creations, Ricky Peplexx, Freeman, and Terminator amongst an array of artistes, who are have penetrated the market.
The number of producers and production houses that are now concentrating on the genre also matches the growing number of artistes.
Notable local dancehall producers are Mockery, Jusa, Jeepers, Nhubu, Ziggy Zee and Mcz. Topashatta, Punchline, Trinidad and Blacklab, Beatsclapping and Eyespy Entertainment are some of the recording companies that are churning dancehall albums on almost a weekly basis.
