ESSENTIAL service workers are now required to produce evidence in the form of an exemption letter as proof that they fall within this bracket if they are working late or are not at home after the 6.30pm curfew, Government has said.
The move is meant to ensure better enforcement and strict adherence to the enhanced national Level Four lockdown measures such as an extended curfew, reduced business hours, prohibition of inter-city passenger travel and decongestion of workplaces to 40 percent that were introduced recently.
The three hours between 3.30pm when businesses close shop and 6.30pm when the curfew starts is regarded as enough for non-essential service staff to clear their workplace and get home in time before the curfew comes into effect.
Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Mr Nick Mangwana said businesses are allowed to operate within the stipulated time, with only essential services allowed to open as spelt out by the law.
