THE Harare Christian Soccer League season will start next month with 16 teams taking part.
The league had 12 clubs last season, but will be expanding this year after Salvation Army FC, Living Word Tabernacle FC, AFM Masasa FC, City Saints FC and Empowerment FC joined.
The league uses football to spread the Word of God and reach out to the masses in a social environment.
They also campaign against drug and substance abuse.
HCSL chairman, Derrick Mawire, said they were looking forward to an exciting and more competitive season.
“We expect a good season. We minister the word of Christ through football and raise awareness on drug and substance abuse.
“We shall also engage prisoners this year.
“In the past, we visited Harare Central Prison and we are looking forward to more such visits with our players.
“We want our players to learn the consequences of leading crooked lives and, at the same time, offer hope and encouragement to those who are incarcerated.
“Our plan is to stage more tournaments this season as we grow as a league.
“New teams have come with some energy and they are already excited about the idea of challenging the old boys,” he said.
