workshop ahead of the drafting stage that will commence soon.
These are former High Court Judge Moses Chinhengo, former chief Government draftsman in the Attorney General’s office, Brian Crozier and Harare lawyer Ms Priscilla Madzonga, a senior partner at Costa and Madzonga law practice.
“These are all experienced legal practitioners with vast experience in drafting and we expect that they will do their job in a professional and impartial manner,” said Copac co-chairperson Cde Paul Mangwana in an interview yesterday. He said the drafting was likely to commence in the middle of July. Cde Mangwana said they were currently finalising district and provincial reports by the thematic committees. “We are currently finalising district and provincial reports and the next stage afterwards is the drafting stage. Tomorrow we will hold a planning workshop for the Select Committee ahead of the drafting stage,” he said.
After the drafting of the new constitution a second all stakeholders meeting will be held and the referendum follows. General elections to choose a new Government will then be held after the referendum.
The constitution making process is one year behind schedule due to resource constraints and squabbles among the three parties over procedural matters that have caused intermittent stoppages.
