Explosion on a mission

BULAWAYO-based hip hop dance outfit, Explosion, is on a mission to turn the entertainment industry upside down. The youthful dance group has just completed its innovative dance routines whose rehearsals they started in May.The four-member group is also determined to give other hip hop groups a tough time at the Intwasa Arts Festival KoBulawayo which kicks off next week.

The co-founder of the group, Prince Phiri, said their expedition to dominance and explosion will not only end at Intwasa, but would continue to other local events and concerts that will pop up.

The outfit which appears to have gained a great deal of experience through performing in a number of local shows has clashed several times with other hip hop dance giants, such as Antivirus, Hurricanes and Loksion Stone.

However, in these clashes, the group’s performances were not competitive enough against their rivals. Phiri said that was now a thing of the past as they were now well-furnished with new dance styles, which will enable them to dominate.

He said they started rehearsing their innovative moves in May this year in preparation for huge events such as the Intwasa.
“Our motto as Explosion is to always deliver new routines for our hip hop fans. We have realised that innovation is the only key for survival in this industry.

“The group has just completed its new routines, which we hope will give us a competitive advantage over our rivals,” said Phiri.
Phiri said the group has matured over the years and was ready to take its rightful place.

The group which is made up of Phiri, Eugene Ndlovu, Oscar Mawoyo and Alex Moyo staged perfomances at the National Arts Merit Awards (Nama) held in February this year in the City of Kings.

They also performed in Harare at the Zimbabwe International Carnival in May. The group has been a regular entertainer especially at Amakhosi concerts, such as Dreams to Fame, Clash of Titans and Bigger Than Hip Hop Show.
