Explosive injures boys

Mashonaland East provincial police spokesman Inspector Bulisani Bhebe confirmed the incident that happened around 1pm at Plot 24, Village 35 in Hoyuyu.
Insp Bhebhe said the boys one aged 12 and two others aged 10 picked the object, which was coated in yellow plastic and had a brass metal on its bottom side.

“The three boys decided to break open the object and Kudzanai hit it with a stone several times while his friends watched.
“The object suddenly exploded, seriously injuring the three boys,” he said.

The 12-year-old sustained injuries to his private parts and on both thighs. The other boy sustained injuries on his back as he tried to run away. The third boy sustained facial injuries, Insp Bhebhe said. The injured boys were rushed to Mutoko District Hospital. Insp Bhebhe said police suspected that the object could have been a live round of a shotgun. Insp Bhebhe urged parents to educate their children on the dangers of tempering with unknown devises.

People living in areas where the liberation war was fought have either been killed or seriously injured by explosives left during the war.
