A jilted Mutare man has been accused of threatening to blow up his former girlfriend in a bid to coerce her into rekindling their love.

The woman allegedly dumped her lover after he was involved in an accident that left him seriously injured.

This emerged at Mutare Civil Court where Priscilla Mundori was seeking a protection order against Nyasha Makunike.

Mundori said Makunike is refusing to let her go and is being violent towards her.

“He comes to my house to burn my property. He burnt my duvet covers and destroyed my wardrobe. He is vandalising my property. Why is he destroying everything I worked hard for?

“He says if he can’t have me, no man should have me. I no longer feel free to move around. I run away each time I see him on the road. He has become violent ever since the accident,” she said.

Mundori said Makunike has been threatening to blow her up with some explosives.

“He has been threatening to kill me if I ditch him for good. He usually threatens to blow me up with explosives. He is a miner so he has access to explosives. He threatened to use them on me if push comes to shove,” the court heard.

Mundori said her ex-boyfriend is also demanding to get the things they acquired during the course of their relationship.

“He has gone to the extent of threatening my children, yet they have nothing to do with our misunderstandings. We dated, yes, but it’s now time to call it quits. I can’t watch my children being tormented. He is threatening to kill them to get his revenge.

“I have thought of running away, but where will I go? He says I should give him every cent that he spent on me when we were dating, but didn’t he provide those things out of love?

“Now that I have said that I do not love him anymore he is demanding those things back. Where will I get the money? I am only trying to live one day at a time. I can’t even send my children to school so l can’t pay him back,” she said.

However, Makunike said he wasn’t aware that Mundori had broken up with him.

“She never told me that our relationship is over, and the fights and threats are all made up stories. Last year she started behaving weirdly and when I asked if she wanted to terminate our relationship her response was ‘no’.

“All along I thought we were trying to rebuild our relationship,” he said.

Makunike also accused his girlfriend of promiscuity.

“Since I was involved in an accident, she has changed. I broke my leg and I am yet to resume work. Money has been a challenge to us since then. I had a mine, but with my broken leg I cannot work.

“She started bringing her boyfriends to the house that I am renting for her. Recently, I caught her with a man in our house. That is when I burnt the duvet covers, it was out of anger. I am struggling to put food on her table and she does this to me. It’s not fair,” he said.

“Bringing her lovers to our house has reduced me to nothing. She should not bring them home during my presence. Maybe it’s because I no longer have a car. Maybe it was the car that she loved. I did not know but it’s good that I am now know that she no longer loves me.

“However, she shouldn’t lie that I am threatening to blow her up with explosives. I haven’t been working since last year, so where will I get the explosives? She is just trying to cut me loose, which is okay,” he said.

Magistrate Mr Xavier Chipato granted the protection order in Mundori’s favour.

The order will be valid for two years.
