Ex’s Valentine’s Day call spawns disaster

A 30-year-old Gweru woman allegedly scalded her live-in-boyfriend with cooking oil on St Valentine’s Day after his former wife called to wish him a happy Valentine.

Tendai Wasara (25) then took her badly burnt boyfriend Sedric Govere (35) to the hospital and kept the heinous attack a secret for nearly two weeks.

Govere and Wasara are employed by a leading wholesale in Gweru.

Details only emerged after Govere, who is still battling for life, regained consciousness and told staff at Gweru Provincial Hospital last Sunday night to alert one of his relatives that he was hospitalised.

“We were then told that same Sunday night that Sedric was battling for life in hospital,” said the relative who requested not to be named.

“We went to the hospital and found his girlfriend, Tendai, at the hospital bringing food.

“We immediately effected a citizen’s arrest and handed her to the police at Gweru Central on Monday.”

Wasara has since appeared before Gweru magistrate, Ms Mildred Matuvi, facing an attempted murder charges. — Midlands Bureau.
