a lot of success as everything she touches turns to gold — and she has laid her hands on a lot.
Tonight, she breaks new ground with the launch of her range of hair and skin care products — a first in Zimbabwe — at the Women Jazz Festival at Jazz 105.
Saturday Lifestyle walked down memory lane with the diva-cum-businesswoman as she chronicled her journey from a raw model bubbling with potential to the successful and influential woman she is today.
“My life has never stopped changing since that time when I was scouted by Innocent for the music video.
“Being a perfectionist, I gave it my best shot and it opened a lot of doors as more people recognised me,” she said.
As doors opened she broke into acting and at some point she was the leading lady in the then popular sitcom, Waiters.
After seeing it all, in the world of theatre and claiming multiple awards Eyahra pursued another one of her dreams and rekindled her childhood love for music.
That was when she rediscovered and reinvented herself into a true and natural African woman and started spotting dreadlocks.
Since then, she has become a respectable roots reggae crooner with three albums, Jah Wox, Mirror Mirror and Fire Red along with multiple singles to her name.
Staying true to her trait of perfectionism she got to the extent of engaging the best Jamaican producers and band members. She also worked with lyricists, writers and other professionals to produce quality conscious music.
“My music career was successful because of my concept. I used the services of professionals and ghost writers to interpret my vision. I do not believe in short changing listeners by producing half backed albums,” she said.
Her music career has not been limited to singing but she also acquired a music studio under her Eyahra brand where she works with artistes and deejays.
As people’s celebrate women’s month, Eyahra is embracing the growth of her empire not only in terms of music but also her daring move to present women with the chance to celebrate their beauty through her products.
With her range of skin care and beauty products, she hopes to provide a local brand that can be trusted to cater for the different skin tones for all races.
With the help of acclaimed beauticians, dermatologists and designers she put together internationally competitive products.
“The cosmetics have undergone a series of tests in the two years it took to build the range. We used natural elements to produce them so l trust my products and use them on my own skin and hair. They work for me because my skin is visibly flawless and my natural hair is healthy,” she said.
The products, which will be sold at a discounted price at the jazz festival, would be available in selected stores and pharmacies countrywide by next week.
Besides her bulk productions, Eyahra is also working on creating signature fragrances and personalised products for ordinary people and interested celebrities.
She says she hopes her products would reach international markets through the main distributors in South Africa.
All this said and done there is no telling what Eyahra will be doing next although she is no stranger in letting her hair down.
She spoke of enlarging her empire and besides her fitness DVD coming up she plans to launch a shoe range for women with big shoe sizes.
When you thought you had seen it all with Eyahra, she has this tendency to just switch into another gear. One of her New Year’s resolutions is to take on car racing.
“I plan on making the Zimbabwean (racing) team next year and maybe later on settle down and start a family.
“Although I am not obsessed about getting married I’ll go for it if the right person comes along,” she said.
