UNITED KINGDOM-based pageant Face of the Globe Zimbabwe is looking for local license holders in pageantry to bring the beauty contest to Zimbabwe. In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, director of the pageant Lorraine Chinouriri said they are looking for partners to open doors for Zimbabwean models.

“We have done the pageant in the UK for past three years and was successful but we saw it necessary to have the same concept in Zimbabwe thus we are looking for license holders from different cities such as Harare, Bulawayo, Chitungwiza, Mutare, Chegutu, Gweru, Kwekwe, Kadoma, Masvingo and Chinhoyi.

“Winners from the areas will then compete in the grand final, with the eventual winner getting a trip to UK then Paris to compete on the international stage,” she said.

The competition has no weight, or height restrictions.

The international pageant is challenging stereotypes and opening doors for young girls and women of Zimbabwean origins.

Chinouriri said Zimbabwean models are talented and well groomed but lack exposure.

“Contestants will be judged on their intelligence, charisma, class and commitment to charitable causes as well as their portrayal of the modern Zimbabwean woman and representation of the beauty of Zimbabwe as a country,” she said.

Chinouriri, an entrepreneur-cum-model, said she wants to build a team of passionate industry leaders who are all Zimbabwean and start bringing the international crowns home.

“When we sent our girl to Miss Grand International, her evening wear and traditional were handmade by a talented Zimbabwean lady from the fashion line, “House of Gogoza” and we did well, we want to continue like that.

“Women should not only talk about empowerment but should benefit much of it hence I challenge other women to take this initiative serious as it opens doors for them,” she said.

Earlier this year, a psychology graduate, Lillie Chopamba was crowned and walked away with various prizes including a trip to Paris.
