Preparations for the Black Opal Face of Zimbabwe pageant have gathered momentum and organisers of the grand finale – set for May 31 at the Reps Theatre – have announced this year’s theme.
The pageant will be running under the theme “African Carpet”.
Tanaka Ngorora, the spokesperson for the contest, said the theme is ideal for the pageant’s concept for this year.
“We chose that theme because we are celebrating our African heritage and we have encouraged people to come wearing African attires,” he said.
“The day is drawing closer and over the weekend the nine contestants had photo shoots. We are left with six contestants to complete the list and they will be selected this month and in April.”
On the big day people will be entertained by contemporary musician Mukudzei Mukombe better known as Jah Prayzah and some traditional dance groups.
Since November last year pageant organisers have been selecting three finalists with the highest votes every month.
“Big prizes are to be won including cash and it is going to be big and better as we are trying to empower ladies with a well packaged event,” said Ngorora.
The door is still open for those who want to enter the competition and one has to buy Black Opal products worth $30 including any colour product like lipstick and mascara.
“Thereafter, attach an A6 size photo of your face only and receipt to the entry form.
“We will then decide which photos qualify to be in competition for that month,” he said.
The chosen queen is expected to walk away with $8 000, first runner-up will get $4 000 while the second runner-up will get $2 000.
Participating outlets include Truworths, Edgars, Jet, Barbours, Greatermans and selected pharmacies countrywide.
Last year, 19-year-old Betty Moyo of Chitungwiza won the title and got a trip for two to New York for a week and $3 000 cash prize
