Faces of the heist: Two suspects in US$4 million EcoBank robbery unmasked

Peter Matika, Senior Reporter

TWO suspects are set to appear at the Bulawayo Magistrates Court this afternoon in connection with the US$ 4, 4 million EcoBank heist that occurred in Bulawayo last year.

The pair, from what has been gathered are facing different charges, although linked to the crime.

The duo was escorted to court by armed officers from CID homicide.

They are being represented by Mr Prince Butshe-Dube of Mathonsi Ncube Law Chambers and are expected to appear before a Bulawayo magistrate at 2:15 PM for initial remand.

The two were arrested on Wednesday and have been in custody assisting police with investigations.

The pair, who appeared unfazed by the charges they are facing, while cuffed together, were chatting and laughing awaiting processing for the case.

They are suspected to be part of the seven-member gang who pulled off an audacious heist in 149 seconds, leaving banking staff and members of the public stunned last year.

The heist is one of Zimbabwe’s biggest cash heists – the theft of over US$4 million as it was being transferred from a Bulawayo bank to a security van.
